Phase Out Book

Reviews for my new book! Phase Out: A Secret Guide to Finding Work that Frees Your Soul

“I thoroughly enjoyed my journey through this book.  Sophia provides practical, insightful advice on how to reframe challenges into positive experiences.  Her personal experiences are both inspiring and touching.  The book also contains exercises to help you get clear on how you truly want to live.  It is a must read for anyone interested in tapping into their full potential and living a joyful, purposeful life.❤️”

“Being acknowledged in Sophia’s book caught me by surprise – As a teacher, there is no greater responsibility or honor than being some part, however large or small, of a student’s journey. With Sophia’s Virtual Pilgrimage, the tables turned and she became my guide and teacher. When you let yourself live with her book, you will meet yourself and open to possibility, presence and love.”

love cats

today i realized all my poetry is about love.
and cats.
but even those cat poems are really about love.
because what else is there?
when you look at the world
and all you can see
is destruction and devastation
due to the fact that all we need is love
and don’t have it,
what does that make you want to do?

do you cry?
love.
do you go hug an animal?
love.
do you go out and buy something to make yourself
feel better?
self-love.
misguided,
but love nonetheless.

because when it really comes down to it,
we should all be
able to do whatever it is that we love.
if you want to raise bees on your roof
or
howl at the moon in the desert
or make up stories about things that don’t seem to exist,
that’s because they do.
in your heart,
exist.
we live in a world where people will try to tell you
“that’s not okay”
but all they can do is try
and only you can love whatever and whoever
you please.
love whatever and whoever you please
please
i ask you one more time,
please.
because without love,
we have no poetry,
we have no cats,
we have no
other way to save ourselves,
without love.

Every life and every death begins the same way, with an exhale. We come into the world with a cry and go out with a sigh, each of these expressions floating on the out-breath.

Buddha’s disciple, Maudgalyayana, taught his own student an important lesson by showing him a huge pile of bones. When the student asked, “What is that?” Maudgalyayana replied, “These are all the bones from the bodies you had in previous lives.”

The bones are always the first to go; it is how the earth element in our body dissolves. Water goes next, followed by the element of fire. Then our wind blows out. After the air element leaves us, the only thing that is left is our consciousness and finally that exits the body, too.

Toshi and i have been friends for 7 years now. we met in Voice & Speech class when i first started acting school at HB Studio and he just moved to the U.S. from Japan. we were friends at first sight even though we never officially hung out that much outside of class. but i believe that we shared a connection and mutual respect for each other’s talents and spirits, and despite wanting to work together, the chance never came up.

we kept in touch super loosely over the years. you know, via Facebook, or seeing each other at shows that we or our mutual friends were in. that was, until about a year and a half ago when he insisted that I audition for the Wind-Up Bird Chronicle.
